Biografía


Ian Rankin nació en abril de 1960, en el pueblo escocés de Cardenden. Allí cursó sus primeros estudios, que más tarde amplió en la universidad de Edimburgo. En la universidad, se alejó de la poesía para dedicarse al relato breve. También con este género obtuvo varios premios literarios, y uno de esos relatos fue creciendo y creciendo hasta transformarse en su primera novela. Escribió sus tres primeras novelas cuando supuestamente estudiaba para licenciarse en Literatura Inglesa. La tercera de ellas, Knots and Crosses, fue la que dio vida al Inspector Rebus. El primer libro protagonizado por el inspector Rebus pretendía ser una historia independiente, y experimentó con otros géneros (el terror, el espionaje, etc.) hasta que alguien le preguntó qué había sido del inspector Rebus. Decidió entonces resucitar a su detective y crear una nueva y exitosa aventura para él, y otra…, y otra más…En 1988 fue elegido Hawthornden Fellow. Posteriormente ganó el Chandler-Fulbright Award en su edición 1991-1992, uno de los premios de ficción detectivesca más prestigiosos del mundo.En la actualidad, reparte su tiempo entre Edimburgo, Londres y Francia, está casado y tiene dos hijos.
