Joyce Carol Oates

Joyce Carol Oates nacio en Lockport (Nueva York) en 1938. Célebre por las generosas dosis de violencia que ha volcado en sus cuentos y novelas,es una de las grandes figuras de la literatura contemporanea norteamericana y firme candidata al premio Nobel. Tras comenzar sus estudios superiores de Lengua y Literatura Inglesa en la Universidad de Siracusa, acabó completándolos en la de Wisconsin, de donde egresó con el título de licenciada. Posteriormente, obtuvo el doctorado en dicha materia por la Universidad de Rice, al tiempo que compaginaba esta especialización con su dedicación al cultivo de la literatura de ficción.
Autora muy prolifica, cuenta con mas de cincuenta novelas, entre las que destacan Blonde y Puro fuego y una variada producción de cuentos , relatos y ensayos.
Tras un largo período de silencio literario, a finales de la década de los setenta Joyce Carol Oates volvió a las listas de libros más vendidos con su novela Bellefleur (1980). Posteriormente, ha publicado El tiempo pasará (1988), Porque es amargo, porque es mi corazón (1990), Agua negra (1992), Confesiones de una chica de la banda (1993), Zombi (1995) y ¿Me querrás siempre?(1996), obras en las que continúa sosteniendo su constante denuncia de la degradación moral en que ha caído una gran parte de la sociedad norteamericana contemporánea. En 2000 publicó Blonde. Una novela sobre Marilyn Monroe.
En la actualidad reparte su tiempo entre la escritura y los cursos en la universidad de Princeton.
